The Frames of Reference: Reflections on Media project consists of six volumes of thematically selected film and video works made by Rockefeller Media Arts Fellows. Featuring works from both the U.S. and Latin America, several key issues emerge: the shaping of history and memory; the use of archival and newsreel footage to examine assumptions of documentary "truth"; identity and representation; the role of the documentarian; the relation between artists' work and broadcast t.v. culture; amongst others The makers in this anthology also remind us of the pure joy and magic of the moving image.

Desire and the Home: Program 1 focuses on the home because for many women, the home was a natural subject of artistic production as a highly charged site of rampantly contradictory meanings. As Lucy Lippard noted, "[women artists] work from such [household] imagery because it’s there, because it’s what they know best, because they can’t escape it." In Desire and the Home: Program 1, the artists explore domestic issues such as motherhood, sexuality, death, familial relationships, control of physical space and the preparation and consumption of food.

Soft Science is a collection of video-curiosities created by artists and scientists. Behind laboratory doors are some of the most astonishing "outsider" art projects around. Autopoetic bacteria, tethered flies, ebullient nanogears - these data gems create wonder, beauty - not to mention knowledge. Artists have been mining science for years - in diverse experiments with icky substances, authority figures, and the ever-elusive idea of Reason. This unique program includes digital movies by biologists alongside contemporary video art.
