Călin Dan is an artist whose work combines research with free creativity, developing projects that bring together social concerns with aspects of entertainment and pop culture. A veteran of black and white photography and of absurdist performance, in recent years he has received international acclaim for his video series Emotional Architecture, where he explores the delicate (in)balance between people and their habitat, and the ways by which political and economic forces affect them.
Călin’s work has been exhibited extensively at international film competitions, art biennales, art museums and galleries in Europe, the USA and Australia. In 2000 he received the New Media Special Award from the International Festival of New Film, Split, Croatia, and in 2001 was awarded the annual Bonn Videonale Prize for his art documentary RA. He currently lives in Amsterdam.
