Stephen Beck

Arriving at video through music, Stephen Beck moved from jazz to electronic music to electronic instrument building. He is best known for creating the Direct Video Synthesizer, a computer built in 1970 during his residency with the National Center for Experiments in Television. Like many of the early video tool designers, Beck was interested in exploring the relationship between synthesized images and human perception.
