Hartmut Bitomsky has been Dean of the School of Film/Video at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia since 1993, and was a Professor at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film, Munich, the Free University, Berlin; and the Film Academy, Berlin between 1975 and 1983. He has been co-publisher and co-editor of Filmkritik since 1973. "The documentary filmmaker captures what is real, but he also makes an image of it which is never the same as the original.
