Yvonne Jacquette (b.1934)is an American painter and printmaker known in particular for her depictions of aerial landscapes, especially her low-altitude and oblique aerial views of cities or towns, often painted using a distinctive, pointillistic technique.  In addition to her paintings, Jacquette frequently collaborated with her late husband, the photographer and filmmaker Rudy Burckhardt, who was also known for his depictions of the urban environment. Jacquette has exhibited at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Detroit Institute of the Arts, the Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of the City of New York, among other institutions, and has received awards from the National Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

“I’ve always felt very involved with landscape, even as a child,” Jacquette says in this interview with Kate Horsfield. “It started to seem like the only real subject matter for me with a kind of absolute finality."

A historical interview originally recorded in 1981. Re-edited in 2010 with support from the Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Fund.
