Description

The two related compilations of Julia Hechtman's video works titled Acts of Disappearance: Death and Acts of Disappearance: Environmental document twenty years of the artist's ongoing exploration of life, death, and humanity's place in time and space. The pieces are often performative, gestural, or conceptual in their clean and elegant examination of messy and complex ideas. While these two collections are explicitly separated in title, and works in each are thematically grouped, any examination on the topics of the environment and death necessitates contemplation of the implicitly connected nature of both.

Acts of Disappearance: Death includes:

Twenty Years Gone, 2012, 8:14
A Man Out of Time, 2015, 1:53
Anyone, 2016, 18:00
Drift, 2017, 2:57
Keeping Time, 2017, 6:03
This Time It’s Not the Same, 2012, 2:38
Buried, 2015, 3:47
Only Us, 2016, 5:40

Individual titles are available by request. Please contact Video Data Bank with inquiries.
