ACCESSING VIDEO DATA BANK TITLES ON PANOPTO

The Video Data Bank is committed to fostering awareness and scholarship of the history and contemporary practice of video and media art, to serving the artists represented in the VDB collection, to providing access to the collection, and to ensuring the future of the collection for generations to come. Founded at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1976 at the inception of the media arts movement, Video Data Bank is a leading resource in the United States for video by and about contemporary artists. The VDB’s collection includes the work of more than 600 artists and 6,000 video art titles.

You can find many of the titles in the Video Data Bank collection already hosted on the SAIC Panopto website.

To access this service, please click this link: https://saic.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto

Then, click the pink button in the top right corner and log-in using your SAIC credentials.

Click the Browsefolder on the left, and search for Video Data Bank.
Once you are in the VDB collection, you can sort the titles in a number of ways to assist your browsing.

If a VDB title you are searching for is not already in Panopto, we can upload it for you. Please follow these directions:

  1. Make a list of titles you would like uploaded to Panopto. You can search the VDB’s collection at www.vdb.org. Please provide dates that you would like the files uploaded by.
  2. Email this list to info@vdb.org and cc: tom@vdb.org.

Preparing and uploading files to Panopto can be time consuming. Please give us at least a week’s notice for files that you would like us to make available.

This service is being extended to all faculty and students at SAIC. As demand is increasing, we would ask that you keep your lists to a reasonable number so that we can fulfill all requests.
